Shu Brocade refers to the silks produced in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, originated from Warring
States over 2,000 years ago. And the weaving craft of Shu Brocade is one of national intangible
cultural heritages.
Shu Brocade is titled as the first from the four famous brocades for its long history and particular
craft. As it has been well developed in Han Dynasty, the government appointed a special official to be
in charge of the weave of brocade. Chengdu, thus, is also known as “Jinguancheng”,called “Jincheng” for short. The Jinjiang River surrounding Chengdu is well known for most people who wash Shu Brocades there. Shiyang Brocade, literally translated as “Ten-shape Brocade”, is one of main styles of Shu Brocade.
